SAN ANTONIO, TX
— April 7, 2021 —Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA), the agency that facilitates organ donation and recovery services for families in Central & South Texas, is hosting two free virtual events to celebrate National Donate Life Month and provide vital donor education for the community.
National Donate Life Month, observed in April, is a month-long observance highlighting the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donors while also honoring those who have given the Gift of Life. Currently in the U.S., nearly 110,000 children and adults await a life-saving organ transplant; unfortunately, 20 people die each day because of the lack of organs available. Because of these stats, and the fact that another person is placed on the national waiting list approximately every 10 minutes, it's essential to learn about the importance and benefits of being a registered donor.
On Tuesday, April 20 at 10 a.m., TOSA will host an Overview of Organ Donation webinar featuring a panel discussion with a clinical member of TOSA's team as well as donation partners Miracles in Sight and United Tissue Resources. The hour-long webinar will also feature Stories of Hope from a donor family and a kidney recipient who received her transplant in February.

As donor families continue to grieve their loved one, TOSA is inviting families to unite for a Donor Remembrance Day Moment of Reflection. On Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m., families are encouraged to visit Facebook.com/TxOrganSharing for a video presentation to remember their loved one's legacy and life-saving gifts. Family, friends and transplant recipients are asked to light a candle for their donor hero and share a photo of their lit candle or of their loved one in the comments.
Texans are encouraged to register at the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas
Department of Motor Vehicles or with Texas Parks & Wildlife. For information on organ donation, community initiatives or to register online, visit TOSA1.org.
