SAN ANTONIO, Texas (03/26/24) - April brings a significant opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. Donate Life Month, observed annually throughout April, serves as a poignant reminder of the lifesaving impact that organ, eye and tissue donation can have on individuals and families across the nation.
This year, Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) is proud to join the nationwide effort to promote organ donation during Donate Life Month (DLM). With our campaign “Our Donors are Superstars,” we aim to inspire the community to registering as organ donors and to discuss their wishes with their loved ones.
“During Donate Life Month, we celebrate organ donors who have given the gift of life, and encourage Texans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors," said TOSA President and CEO Joseph Nespral. "We
are honored to be part of the lives of all those impacted by organ donation and continue to pay tribute to the donors and their families who have transformed grief into a meaningful legacy by selflessly giving the gift of life.”
According to Donate Life Texas, there are 10,000 people in Texas awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant. Every 9 minutes, someone else in the nation is added to the waiting list, highlighting the
critical need for registered organ donors.
During Donate Life Month, Texas Organ Sharing Alliance encourages individuals to take the following steps to support organ donation:
- register to be an organ, eye and tissue donor
- discuss you decision to register with family and friends
- volunteer with TOSA to encourage other to sign up
