Make a Splash for Donate Life Month

4/17/2023
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 17, 2023) - Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) is making a splash in April to celebrate and honor the generosity of donors during National Donate Life Month (NDLM).

NDLM, established by Donate Life America (DLA) in 2003, is an observance during April to focus national attention on the importance of registering to be a donor and honoring deceased and living donors. This year DLA NDLM campaign was inspired by the natural world of a pond coming to life in the spring and features frogs and toads as a symbol of healing and renewal.

To celebrate DLM and kick off Fiesta, TOSA will be hosting the 2023 Fiesta Event on Wednesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at TOSA Event Center. The celebration will include the crowning of DLM Fiesta Queen, Annamarie Macias, as she celebrates 45 years with her precious gift of life donated to her by her brother.

“I received the gift of life and against all odds, was able to give life and now have grandchildren,” Annamarie said. “The best way to honor my donor is to never take a day for granted. If I can motivate just one person to sign up to be a donor, then I've done my job.”

More than 104,000 people across the country are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and almost 10,000 of them are in Texas. Only 3 in 1,000 people die in a way that allows for organ donation to take place, making it extremely important for everyone to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor.

“Donate Life Month reminds us the gift of donation is a powerful gift from one person to another. It means those in our community may live to see their children and grandchildren,” said TOSA President & CEO Joseph Nespral. “When we all come together as a community, we make the most impact. Hope and healing connects us all.”

Give hope and help save lives by registering your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at DonateLifeTexas.org. Help continue to save lives by sharing the Donate Life message, educating others about the need and how their generosity can help save and heal lives.

Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA), founded in 1975, is one of 56 federally-designated Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) in the United States. TOSA is committed to a mission of saving lives through the power of organ donation by providing organ donation and recovery services to Central and South Texans wishing to donate, and to those waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
