Sports Fans Urged to Take a Minute to Sign up & Save Lives

9/11/2018
SAN ANTONIO, TX — September 7, 2018 — Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA), the organ procurement organization that provides organ donation and recovery services in Central and South Texas, has unveiled a new public service announcement campaign to encourage young men to sign up as organ
donors.

The "In the Minute" campaign highlights how easy it is to sign up as an organ donor by visiting the group's website, TOSA1.org. Set in a baseball stadium, TOSA explains how using a game's timeout could be used to make a lifesaving decision.

The commercial will be shown at football games for the University of Texas at San Antonio against Baylor University and Texas State University, as well as at an upcoming soccer match for the RGV FC Toros in Edinburg.

"We know thousands of sports fans will be in stadiums to watch their favorite team this fall. When they head into a timeout, why not use that time to sign up as a donor," said TOSA CEO Joseph Nespral. "The Donate Life Texas registry is currently 44 percent male, compared to 56 percent female. It's time men get involved and sign up. It takes just a minute."

Currently more than 10 million Texans are registered with Donate Life Texas, the state's official registry for organ, eye and tissue donors.

In 2017, approximately 44 percent of TOSA's donors made the decision to be lifesaving organ donors, giving hope to the nearly 11,000 people who are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in Texas.

TOSA is headquartered in San Antonio and has satellite offices in Austin and McAllen. The organization has consistently been recognized as a Top Workplace by San Antonio Express-News.

Texans are encouraged to register to be organ, eye and tissue donors at Texas Department of Public Safety or the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. For information on organ donation and community initiatives, or to register online, visit TOSA1.org.
