Honoring and celebrating the legacies of those who gave the gift of life in 2024

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, a nonprofit organ procurement organization (OPO), welcomed families from across Central and South Texas for its fifth annual Wall of Heroes Dedication Ceremony to honor and celebrate those who gave the gift of life through organ donation, on Saturday, May 3.

Over 500 attendees gathered in TOSA's Donor Memorial Garden in San Antonio for the remembrance. The names and donation dates of 248 honored donors who saved lives in 2024 are now permanently memorialized on medallions adorning the Wall of Heroes, a monument surrounded by peaceful landscaping that invites reflection and gratitude.

For the past five decades, TOSA has been providing compassionate care and grief support to families before, during, and after organ donation, while also educating the public to help Texans make informed decisions about organ donation.

“At TOSA, we built our Wall of Heroes in this Donor Memorial Garden to honor the individuals and families who have impacted so many lives over the years through the gift of organ donation,” said TOSA President and CEO Joseph Nespral. “We are deeply honored to commemorate these heroes who created a lasting legacy of saving a life and impacting numerous others by being an organ donor. ”

The ceremony included a blessing by the Rev. Ro Schmidt, chaplain at St. David's Georgetown Hospital, and a testimonial from Adrienne Laosa, who received a liver in 2021. This event is part of TOSA's continued mission to support donor families and raise awareness about the life-saving importance of organ donation.
“Being an organ donor does not affect only the recipient. It has this simultaneously beautiful and extremely powerful effect on every single person in the recipient's orbit,” said TOSA Organ Recipient Adrienne Laosa.
There are currently over 10,000 Texans waiting for a lifesaving transplant. TOSA encourages the public to
  1. Register as an organ donor at TOSA1.org
  2. Share your decision with your loved ones
  3. Get involved with TOSA's mission to save lives through volunteerism and advocacy.
