SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 27, 2023) - To better support families who are grieving the loss of a loved one, Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) and its Donor Family Aftercare department have launched a podcast to provide grieving individuals with resources and tools.

Legacies of Life, available now, was created as an additional way TOSA can engage and support families of individuals who saved lives through the power of organ donation. As the organization that helps individuals and families offer the gift of life in Central and South Texas, TOSA supports donor families in several ways from sympathy cards and bereavement packets to follow up phone calls and connections to support groups, when necessary.

“For several years now, we have focused on finding ways to honor our donor heroes and support their families who many times are suffering the greatest loss of their lives,” said TOSA President & CEO Joseph Nespral. “We are committed to showing these families how much they mean to us. This podcast is an effort that can reach families from their homes or cars but can also provide an innovative means to normalize the grief pain we all experience.”

The podcast is an extension of a quarterly newsletter sent to donor families that not only introduces families to members of TOSA's staff, but also connects families to opportunities to honor their loved one through activities and encourages them to consider writing their loved one's recipients if they want to learn more about them, among other topics.

Starting to air episodes bi-monthly, TOSA's Donor Family Aftercare team is looking to explore a variety of topics for families including when to seek professional help, how to use art to heal and how we can help grieving children. Each episode will also feature Legacy Letters written by donor families or grateful recipients, as well as spotlights on individuals who have saved lives through donation.
